FEELINGS

2024

Series of commissioned site-specific artworks and interventions within the Laufen Collection, Klo & So, at Kammerhof Museum Gmunden, Austria

In today’s world, empathy is constantly on everyone’s lips. Whether in politics, media, or personal relationships, calls for greater empathy have become a recurring refrain. Yet, as the Feelings series suggests, empathy isn’t something we can simply summon, like turning on a faucet and having it flow all by itself. Despite the frequency with which we invoke the term, genuine empathy remains an elusive, complex process—one that cannot be commodified or instantly accessed.

Historically, bathing was a communal act—a place not only for personal hygiene but also for social interaction and collective vulnerability. The commissioned works reflect on this transformation, highlighting how the bath, once a shared public experience, has become increasingly private. This shift mirrors broader societal trends towards individualism, personal security, and self-care. What was once a space of communal exchange has now become a sanctuary of solitude, with the modern bathroom representing a retreat from the pressures of an interconnected world.
